The Great Icescape

Released on July 3, 2019, The Great Icescape is one of the oldest PG Soft titles still massively present at operators, and it lays down an idea the studio would recycle for years: the grid that grows as you play. The setting is polar — ice fields, penguins and frozen blockers — and play begins on a restricted 1-3-5-3-1 layout, meaning just 45 paylines. Every winning combination shatters ice blockers covering the unused positions: you need 12 in total to open the full 5x5 grid, which then offers 3,125 ways to win. Reaching the full grid triggers the Bonus Respin, the heart of the game, which carries a multiplier meter and extra lives that let the respin sequence continue past the first failure. What makes this title interesting to analyse is how transparent its maths are. Total RTP is 96.33%, split into 54.54% for the base game and 41.79% for the bonus respin: more than 43% of the game's return is therefore locked inside the feature. Overall hit frequency is 22.7%, of which 20.47% in the base game and only 2.23% for the bonus. In practice: the base game mostly exists to break ice, and the bulk of the value arrives rarely but hard. The ceiling is quoted at 7,963x your stake — a precise, measured value rather than a round communications figure, which inspires more confidence than the rounded caps shown on other titles. Two reservations: the 96.33% RTP sits below PG Soft's usual average (96.70% to 96.80%), and no bonus buy is documented. Bets run from €0.25 to €75, with a floor slightly higher than the studio's standard €0.20.
