BetsRank Verdict

Our read of the game, based on the data the studio publishes

Released in June 2022, Folsom Prison is the spiritual sequel to San Quentin xWays with an unprecedented mechanic: a position-unlock system. Most positions on the grid start each spin 'literally behind bars.' Special symbols (wilds, xWays, xSplit) unlock additional positions, significantly increasing the win ways. The default 4x2 grid expands up to 4-6-6-6-4, going from 16 base ways to 46,664 ways. Max win 75,000x, base RTP 96.07%, very high volatility. Signature mechanic: cockroach nest wilds that 'walk around,' adding multipliers to random positions and unlocking locked areas. Two bonus tiers: Walk The Line (8 spins, minimum 1 cockroach nest per spin) and The Chair (8 spins, minimum 3 cockroach nests per spin, 1,500x bonus buy).

Strengths

+Position-unlock system unique to the catalogue
+Cockroach nest wilds that move and carry multipliers
+2 bonus tiers (Walk The Line entry-level + The Chair premium)
+Spiritual sequel to San Quentin xWays
+75,000x max win — top 5 at NoLimit

To consider

−Locked positions at the start mean the base game can feel empty
−The Chair bonus buy at 1,500x is expensive (reserved for high rollers)
−Niche cockroach mechanic — the visuals may put some players off
