About Wisdom of Athena
Wisdom of Athena is Pragmatic Play's Greek-mythology take on the pay-anywhere format, released in June 2023. It runs on a 6x5 grid with no paylines and no wild symbols: you win by landing eight or more matching symbols anywhere in view, the winning symbols vanish, and new ones tumble down to replace them. The default RTP is 96.07%, and Pragmatic also ships two lower configurations — 95.09% and 94.09% — that operators are free to deploy without telling you. Volatility is high, the maximum win is capped at 5,000x your bet, and the bet range runs from 0.10 to 100 per spin.
What separates it from Gates of Olympus is the grid unlock. The top row starts blocked by numbered tiles, and each one clears after a set number of tumbles inside the same sequence — 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. A long cascade chain therefore physically enlarges the playing field from 30 to 36 positions, which raises both the hit rate and the size of the clusters you can build. In the base game the counter resets once the tumble sequence dries up. In free spins it does not: whatever you unlock stays unlocked for the rest of the round.
The paytable is short and easy to read. Five coloured emblems sit at the bottom — green pays 0.4x your bet for eight symbols, purple 0.5x, blue 0.75x, pink 1x and red 1.5x. Above them come the scroll (2x for eight), the vase (3x), the helmet (5x) and the shield, the premium symbol at 10x for eight and 50x for twelve or more. The owl scatter pays on its own too: 2x for four, 15x for five, 100x for six.
Multiplier orbs land in both the base game and the bonus with a random value between 2x and 500x. They apply to the total win of the tumble sequence they appear in, and inside free spins their values add up across the whole round instead of resetting each spin — that stacked total is what makes the 5,000x cap reachable at all. Four scatters in the same tumble sequence award 10 free spins, and three more during the round add five. An Ante Bet costs 25% extra per spin and raises scatter frequency; a bonus buy at 100x your bet takes you straight in, though it is unavailable in the UK since the UKGC banned feature purchases.
A follow-up, Wisdom of Athena 1000, arrived on a 6x6 grid with a fully locked top reel, multiplier values pushed to 1,000x and a 10,000x ceiling for a 96.00% headline RTP. It is the same game dialled up: rarer bonuses, wider swings, a longer tail. If you want the mechanic at a manageable pace, stay on the original.
