About Mustang Gold
Mustang Gold was released on 17 January 2019 and remains one of the more approachable slots Pragmatic Play has built. The grid is 5 reels by 3 rows on 25 fixed paylines, the RTP is 96.53%, volatility is medium-high rather than the punishing extremes the studio favours now, and the maximum win is 12,000x your stake. Bets run from 0.25 to 125 per spin. A lower 95.54% build also circulates, so the info panel is worth a look before you start.
The paytable is a straight Western cast. Ten through Ace sit at the bottom, then the cowgirl, the cowboy, the black horse and the white horse as the premiums — the white horse being the best of the regular symbols at 20x your stake for five of a kind. The gold-framed Mustang Gold logo is the wild: it lands on reels two to five and substitutes for everything except the two special symbols that actually run the game.
Those two are the horseshoe money symbol and the sheriff badge collect symbol. Horseshoes land on reels one to four carrying a printed value between 1x and 35x your bet. On their own they do nothing. The badge appears on reel five, and when it lands alongside one or more horseshoes it sweeps up every value on screen and pays the lot. This is Pragmatic's money-collect template — the same design language it introduced with Wolf Gold in 2017 and has since carried through Wild West Gold, the John Hunter series and, in a different shape, the whole Big Bass franchise. Mustang Gold's variant is the cleanest of the family: no respin phase to sit through, just badge plus horseshoes equals payout.
The four jackpots hang off that same collect. Horseshoes can carry a jackpot value instead of a cash value, and collecting one opens the Jackpot Reveal bonus game: a grid of horseshoes you click to uncover symbols, with three matching awarding the tier. The tiers are fixed multiples of your bet — Mini 50x, Minor 100x, Major 200x and Grand 1,000x. Because they scale with your stake rather than sitting in a shared pool, there is no advantage to betting big beyond the raw arithmetic. One important limitation: the Jackpot Reveal cannot trigger during free spins.
The free spins come from three bonfire scatters on reels two, three and four, and award 8 free spins with unlimited retriggers. The reels are re-weighted for the round: horseshoes and badges appear far more often, which turns a feature that looks short on paper into the main route to a big total. A round that retriggers twice with a dense set of high-value horseshoes is where 12,000x stops being theoretical. There is no bonus buy — Mustang Gold predates that becoming standard, and Pragmatic never retrofitted it. A Megaways version, Mustang Gold Megaways, was released later for players who want the same theme on a variable grid.
