About Book of Dead
Book of Dead is the Play'n GO slot that turned the Egyptian book format into a permanent fixture of European casino lobbies. It launched on 14 January 2016 as a chapter of the Rich Wilde series, and a decade later it is still one of the most searched slot titles on the market. The layout is deliberately old-fashioned: five reels, three rows, 10 fixed paylines, wins paying left to right from reel one. No cascades, no Megaways engine, no cluster grid.
Three numbers decide whether it suits you. The headline RTP is 96.21%, volatility is high, and the maximum win is capped at 5,000x your stake. Bets run from €0.10 to €100 per spin. The RTP figure carries a caveat most reviews skip: Play'n GO certifies five separate builds of this game — 96.21%, 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.25% and 84.18% — and the operator decides which one it loads. That is a spread of more than twelve percentage points between the best and the worst version of the same slot, and it dwarfs anything you can influence with bet sizing. Open the in-game information panel before your first spin: the active figure is printed there.
The paytable is top-heavy. Rich Wilde himself pays 500x the line bet for five of a kind, the pharaoh mask 200x, and Anubis and the falcon-headed Horus 75x each. The card royals from 10 to Ace sit far behind at roughly 10x to 15x, which is why a base-game session grinds. The Book is wild and scatter on the same tile: it substitutes for every regular symbol and pays 2x, 20x or 200x your total stake for three, four or five anywhere on the grid. With ten lines running, an expanded Rich Wilde covering all five reels is the route to the 5,000x ceiling.
Land three or more Books anywhere and you get 10 free spins. Before the round starts the game draws one regular symbol at random and promotes it to expanding symbol: whenever three or more of it land during the round, it stretches to fill entire reels and pays whether or not those reels sit next to each other. That single draw decides the round. Drawing Rich Wilde or the pharaoh mask can end in four figures; drawing the 10 rarely covers what the trigger cost. Three more Books during the feature retrigger it. There is no bonus buy — the natural trigger is the only way in.
A gamble game sits behind every win: call the colour of a face-down card to double it, call the suit to quadruple it. It is optional, resolves instantly, and does not change the game's RTP. Play'n GO has since built Rich Wilde into a long franchise, but Book of Dead is still the entry every casino stocks and the one the others get measured against.
