Fire 88

Q: What is the RTP of Fire 88?

96.46%, the figure Pragmatic Play publishes on the official game sheet. SlotCatalog, however, documents a second version shipped at 95.47%, close to a full point less. On a title whose ceiling is limited to 902x the stake, that gap weighs proportionally more than elsewhere. The applied rate can be checked in the game rules.

Q: What stakes does Fire 88 accept?

From 0.07 € to 35 € per spin, the floor corresponding to one coin on each of the seven lines. The 35 € ceiling is low for today's market and closes the game to larger tickets, but it stays consistent with a 902x win ceiling: raising the stake opens no new perspective here.

Our read of the game, based on the data the studio publishes

First thing to settle: the game is called Fire 88, not 88 Fire. The inversion circulates widely, including in casino catalogues, and it regularly sends players to the wrong page. It is a three-reel, three-row machine with seven paylines, released by Pragmatic Play in 2018, in the Chinese classic register: dragons, firecrackers, an 88 symbol in red and gold. There are no free spins. The whole mechanic rests on two features, and one of them deserves a pause because it is frankly mean-spirited. Two dragon wilds on the grid award a free respin. Good news, except that the respin plays with no wild symbols at all: the reels restart stripped of the very symbol that earned you the spin, and you can only land the ordinary combinations from the paytable. The studio gives you a spin back and takes away the tool that produced it. It is consistent with the return figure, but you want to have understood the bargain before getting excited about your first respin. The second feature is the jackpot, and it is what carries the game. Three badges on the 88 symbol open a pick round where you flip coins to match symbols. Three fixed tiers are in play: the mini at 38x the total bet, the middle at 88x, and the grand at 888x. These are fixed amounts, not progressive, which has the merit of clarity: you know exactly what you are playing for, and nobody is sustaining the illusion of a swelling pot. That also sets the game's ceiling, measured at 902x the stake. It is very low, even for a classic machine, and it conditions everything else: Fire 88 is not a title where you hope for a hit. It is a short-session machine at medium volatility, where the grand jackpot is the only notable event and the rest plays out in small seven-line combinations. The reference return figure is 96.46%, displayed by Pragmatic Play on its own sheet. A 95.47% version is documented by SlotCatalog, close to a full point less: on a game whose ceiling is already 902x, that gap weighs proportionally heavier than elsewhere. Stakes run from 0.07 € to 35 €, and there is no bonus buy. In the end, an honest but narrow classic, whose appeal rests almost entirely on the legibility of its three fixed jackpots. The wild-free respin, meanwhile, will remain one of the most thankless ideas in the catalogue for a long time.

Strengths

+Three fixed, legible jackpot amounts: 38x, 88x and 888x the total bet
+A reference RTP of 96.45%, published by Pragmatic Play on the official sheet
+A 3x3 grid with seven lines: the rules make sense without opening the paytable
+A 0.07 € floor stake, which lets a small balance last
+Two wilds are enough to trigger a respin, which happens fairly often
+No progressive jackpot: the amounts advertised are the ones paid

To consider

−The respin plays without wilds: the game removes the symbol that just earned it
−A 902x ceiling, very low even for a classic machine
−No free spins round and no bonus buy
−A 95.47% version circulates, close to a full point under the reference figure
−A 35 € stake ceiling, closing the game to larger tickets
−The name is very often inverted to "88 Fire", which misdirects searches

Fire 88: three fixed jackpots and a disarmed respin

Fire 88 is a Pragmatic Play slot released in 2018. The title is frequently written the other way round, as "88 Fire", including in some casino lobbies: it is the same game, and no second title bearing the inverted name exists in the supplier's catalogue. The build is that of an unapologetic classic: three reels, three rows, seven paylines. The artwork draws on traditional Chinese imagery, with dragons, firecrackers and a red-and-gold 88 symbol that gives the game its name. The stake range spans 0.07 € to 35 € per spin, and the reference return figure is 96.46%, published by Pragmatic Play on its own product sheet. The game contains no free spins round. Only two features structure the whole thing. The first rests on the dragon wild: when two wilds appear on the grid, a free respin is awarded. The detail that matters is that this respin runs with no wild symbol on the reels at all. The free spin can therefore only produce the ordinary combinations from the paytable, and the symbol that triggered the feature is precisely absent from it. That is an unusual quirk, and it partly explains why the trigger is relatively frequent. The second feature is the jackpot system, and it carries most of the game's value. Three jackpot badges appearing on the 88 symbol open a pick round: the player flips coins to match identical symbols, each completed match unlocking the corresponding tier. Three tiers exist, all at fixed amounts. The mini pays 38x the total bet, the middle 88x, and the grand 888x. None of these amounts is progressive: they depend neither on elapsed time nor on stakes accumulated by other players, which makes the arithmetic immediately legible. The title's maximum win is set at 902x the stake, that is, the grand jackpot completed by a line win landed in the same spin. It is a very low ceiling by current market standards, and it defines the game's profile entirely: Fire 88 is not built to produce exceptional results, but to offer a short, regular session around a clearly quantified objective. The recorded volatility is medium, which fits seven paylines and the absence of any multiplier. One point of caution concerns the return figure. The reference version is indeed 96.46%, but SlotCatalog documents a second version shipped at 95.47%. The gap approaches a full point, which weighs proportionally heavily on a game whose ceiling is already limited to 902x. Only the rules screen, reachable from the machine's menu, will tell you which one is running at a given casino. The game offers no bonus buy: neither the respin nor the jackpot round can be triggered for payment.

The game in pictures

Screenshots of the actual game, not promotional art — every screen is described from what it shows.

Fire 88 — The base game — Three jackpot meters sit above the 3-reel, 3-row grid: GRAND at $1,864.80, MAJOR at $184.80 and MINI at $79.80 for the $2.10 bet shown at the bottom. The 88 JACKPOT symbol occupies the top of the third reel, and the PAYS table runs down the left edge of the screen.

Fire 88 — Game rules — First page of the rules, at a $2.10 bet: three 88 symbols pay $30.00, three diamonds $18.00 and three Chinese coins $9.00. No combination is listed below three symbols.

Fire 88 — Game rules, page 2 — The WILD dragon pays $75.00 for three symbols and, as soon as two appear on screen, triggers a free respin of the reel that does not hold one. On the right, the BONUS GAME hands out three fixed jackpots — GRAND at 888x total bet, MAJOR at 88x and MINI at 38x — obtained by flipping coins until three matching symbols come up.

Fire 88 — How to play — The HOW TO PLAY page describes the interface: the chevron button cycles through normal speed, quick spin and turbo spin, and clicking the CREDIT and BET labels switches the display between coins view and cash view.

Fire 88 — Settings menu — The SETTINGS MENU brings together INTRO SCREEN, AMBIENT, SOUND FX and GAME HISTORY; the BET MENU shows the game's number of lines and is set through the COINS PER LINE and COIN VALUE fields.

Fire 88 — Autoplay — Last page of the panel (6/6): AUTOPLAY starts by clicking the wanted number of automatic spins, and the SKIP SCREENS option skips the feature introduction and end screens.

❓Frequently asked questions about Fire 88

Are Fire 88 and 88 Fire the same game?▾

Yes.

The official Pragmatic Play title is Fire 88, but the inversion "88 Fire" circulates widely, including in casino lobbies and affiliate catalogues. No second game bearing the inverted name exists at the supplier. Both spellings point to the same three-reel, seven-line machine released in 2018.

What is the RTP of Fire 88?▾

96.

46%, the figure Pragmatic Play publishes on the official game sheet. SlotCatalog, however, documents a second version shipped at 95. 47%, close to a full point less. On a title whose ceiling is limited to 902x the stake, that gap weighs proportionally more than elsewhere. The applied rate can be checked in the game rules.

Why does the respin play without wilds?▾

It is an explicit rule of the game: the respin awarded by two wilds runs on reels from which the wild symbol has been removed, and only ordinary paytable wins are reachable.

The free spin is therefore structurally less favourable than a normal one, which in turn explains why its trigger is fairly frequent.

How are the Fire 88 jackpots triggered?▾

Three jackpot badges appearing on the 88 symbol open a pick round.

The player flips coins there to match identical symbols, and each completed match unlocks the corresponding jackpot tier. The three tiers are fixed: 38x, 88x and 888x the total bet.

Are the jackpots progressive?▾

No, and that counts in the game's favour.

All three amounts are fixed and expressed as multiples of the total bet: 38x, 88x and 888x. They depend neither on elapsed time, nor on stakes accumulated by other players, nor on the casino. What the paytable advertises is exactly what is paid.

What is the maximum win on Fire 88?▾

902x the stake, corresponding to the 888x grand jackpot completed by a line win landed in the same spin.

It is a very low ceiling for today's market, where modern machines routinely exceed 5,000x. Fire 88 is not designed to produce an exceptional result, but for a regular session around a quantified objective.

Does Fire 88 offer free spins or a bonus buy?▾

Neither.

The game has no free spins round, and neither of its two features — the two-wild respin and the jackpot round — can be bought. Everything triggers at the pace of chance, which remains consistent with a 2018 classic.

What stakes does Fire 88 accept?▾
